| Food Services Update |
|
Dear Acadia Students, As many of you are well aware, Acadia Students’ Union recently terminated an Agreement with Acadia University concerning food services in the ASU Students' Centre. We have elected to cease current operations with the University and its food provider and will be making exciting changes to the structure of food services in the facility. The ASU Executive is moving forward with a self-operated food service model for implementation in September 2009. The Union will be self-operating a convenience store under the name “Union Market” and will begin operating a coffee shop under the name “Perkins”. These two operations will seek to provide quality, consistent, and affordable food options within the Students' Centre while focusing on student employment and convenient hours of operation. The current status of a “grill line” concept will be announced shortly. The ASU had been in discussions with Tim Hortons for implementation of a full service coffee shop, however, this initiative will not be implemented at this time. The Union feels that the matter requires more research and consultation. The ASU Executive will be conducting a strategic overview of food services in the facility. This research will commence with a food service survey followed by several focus groups, public information meetings, a presentation to the Students' Representative Council for ratification purposes, and finally, a referendum if necessary. The outcome of this process will set the direction for food service in our facility and will be reflective of the gathered student input. The 2009 2010 ASU executive is looking forward to this tremendous opportunity and welcomes your feedback, questions, concerns, or comments.
