What is the Acadia Students' Union?

The Acadia Students' Union is an organization that provides services and representation for you, the student, while you are at Acadia University. The executive of the ASU is comprised of 5 student positions: President, VP Student Affairs, VP Campus Life, VP Finance and VP Academic. Each executive deals with different issues however the goals of the ASU are to be carried out collectively by these 5 students.

How long has the ASU been around for?
The ASU was incorporated in 1967 but existed in a more unofficial capacity for almost 30 years before that!

How do I get involved in the ASU?

There are many ways to get involved within the ASU! Just a few of them are:

  • Running for a position within you house council
  • Running for a position in the campus-wide by-election in September or the General Election in February
  • Applying for a job within the ASU (we hire approximately 200 students)
  • Joining a club at Acadia (there will be a club extravaganza in September)
  • Participating in an internal organization at Acadia (such as the Women's Centre, the student newspaper, etc)
You will hear a lot more about all of these things once you get on campus. However if you have any questions about getting involved, please email Jon Cotreau, ASU President at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

What is the SUB?

The SUB, or Students' Union Building, is where you can find most of the services the ASU provides for you. Inside the SUB you will find:

  • Several food service options
  • Cajun's clothing store (not the same as the campus store - money spent here remains within the student body instead of a multinational corporation!)
  • The Axe Lounge
  • Executive Offices
  • Internal Organization Offices
  • Some great hang out and study spaces
  • The Information Desk (Canada Post Outlet, dry cleaning, bus tickets, etc)
These are just a few of the things you can find in the SUB. It is operated by your Acadia Students' Union so we hope you'll spend some time there! It's also where you'll pick up your Frosh Packs!

If I have a question that isn't here, who can I ask?
